AFRICA CHOKWE, TSHOKWE MASK Wood Helmet Angola  One million Chokwe (at least 30 different spellings of the name} JOKWE (BAJOKWE, CHOKWE, TCHOKWE, TSHOKWE, BATSHIOKO) The Chokwe are governed by a king called Mwana Ngana, who distributes hunting and cultivation areas. The male Mugonge and female Ukule societies regulate their social life. They are vigorous and courageous hunters and agriculturists, who used formerly to engage in the slave trade. The Mask represents the ideal young female beauty, Mwano Pwo, were danced with male counterparts, Tchihongo, during initiation ceremonies and other important occasions to bring fertility and prosperity to the village. Most share the depiction of facial scarification patterns, filed teeth, fanciful and inventive hair styles, tear motifs and cruciform markings on the forehead.. ~~ Mask ~~ A Fantastic Chokwe Mask .
