African Grasslands Cameroon Covered Carved Wood Pot Africa

The savannas of the west, the Grassland, are composed of three ethnic groups with ancestors in common. There are the one million Bamileke spread over the southwestern plateaus; The Fon or individual King was the head of these communities and handled all judicial and regulatory activities as well as the sacred rituals for harvesting and planting, the royal hunt, war expeditions and the festivals of the dry season. It was only when the Cameroon became a German colony that the King or Fon was forced to perform administration duties. Most Bamileke art relates to kings and important chiefs, who defined their power by the display of prestige objects during important ceremonies. The motifs include leopards, bulls, human figures and heads, spiders, lizards and other subjects plus abstract designs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fantastic Cameroon Covered Pot .
